Backstage Pass ~ Brenda Shoffner's thoughts about art, entertainment and more

What worries/interests you most?

I was a little bummed that no one commented on my last blog about Oscar nominees, which I thought was fun.

So, since I seem to be out of touch, I’m asking in this blog what do you want to comment about?

What interests you? Makes you tick? Worries you?

I worry about my children — yes even though they’re almost grown, maybe especially since they’re almost grown!

I worry about my family in general, my job, my home, my health. Nothing interesting or surprising there.

I also worry about the level of anger and animosity that seems to be everywhere in the world, including the Emerald Coast.

When did everyone become so hateful and ugly about everything? Do they really think that helps or makes a difference?

I respond more favorably to kind requests and thoughtful reasoning than to threatening demands and irrational rants. Don’t you?

Just wondering.

Brenda, I was surprised nobody commented on your last blog. I read it, thought about it for a millisecond, and then thought “Pshaw, who cares?” Maybe others thought the same way, I don’t know. I honestly couldn’t name a single Oscar nominee, nor do I care. (Okay, I’m sure I could name some random celebrity names that would actually be Oscar nominees, but that would just be random guessing!)

I think people are starting to worry about other, more important and more close-to-home problems, and the Celebritainment royalty is becoming less important to the working masses.

I worry about everything: my kids, my family, my job, my dryer that just crapped out, the freshness status of the milk in the fridge, etc.

Given all of those worries, dinner with some self-important, Prius-driving, millionaire Hollywood elitist is not on my radar at this time.

I don’t think people are necessarily hateful or ugly. I like to think that isn’t part of human nature. I think although most humans have good intentions, the hatefulness and rudeness is caused by intense fear and the instinct for self-preservation. I think our world is careening in a hand basket toward the dark ages.

  • Thanks for the comment, chief007! I appreciate that you read my blog and understand why you didn’t comment on the last one. As I said, I just thought it would be fun.

I wanted to choose you, Brenda, but you weren’t nominated for an Oscar so I didn’t comment. You and others at the paper have reviewed some great restaurants so I bet y’all could pick a good one and recommend some good menu items. Who doesn’t enjoy a yummy lunch? But, you’d have to wear the hat y’all did about a year ago or so. I think the pic was in Del’s blog or maybe yours???

  • Kenny: You’re so kind! Re the hat: The pink hat with huge yellow roses? Or the blue hat? The first was for Derby Day the second was for the royal wedding day. We were just having some fun.
